Het gebeurt zelden dat westerlingen oude Chinese
teksten over liefde, erotiek, tederheid en verlangen een
kleedje van moderne westerse popmuziek aanpassen.
Dat is net wat Snowflower heeft gedaan. Karen Van
Camp selecteerde Chinese teksten, zocht gepaste Engelse
vertalingen. Pascale en Bert Verschueren hebben er muziek onder geplaatst. Het resultaat is een waaier van songs vol heerlijke stemmen, strelende - tot soms licht bedwelmende - gitaarritmes, Chinese klanken en sensuele teksten van een uitgesproken tijdloosheid.
'Outcries from the boudoir' is niet alleen de uitnodigende
en sprekende titel van het concert én van de CD, het is
meteen ook de titelsong. De song is gebaseerd op een
gedicht uit de 9de eeuw van Zhao Luanluan. Deze
courtisane tracht in haar teksten zichzelf aan te prijzen.
Ze beschrijft haar slanke vingers, haar dunne
kersenlippen en haar melkwitte borsten.
'When fresh from the bath / her sweet-scent man / teases with
a touch / those magical buds feel / shivery shivery wet'.
